| Waffles
I crave waffles at three a.m. while sitting in a student lounge writing poetry.
I wish their warmth would now fill me happily, settling heavily in my stomach like tasty lead. |

| Starlight
Yes even Angels weep
Sometimes the world is dark and full of pain And the boundless night stretches from horizon to horizon The cold spaces of the void echo within the soul Sometimes the world contains things we wish we did not see Things that blind us with bright rage and jealousy The fire of passion within overwhelming reason
Yes even Angels weep you can count their tears in the stars |

| Philosophy 101
What is the sound of a heart breaking? Her tears, her anger, her lies Her footsteps outside my door Her laughter, two weeks after Her name ... her name ... her name
What if no one hears the cry, no one sees the tears? The pain still leaves a silent scar The heart rarely heals whole again But the sorrow slowly wanders off Yet it never leaves me, its never far
Why? Why do we suffer? Why do us harm? So that one can grow ... and live So that a new love can appear Because maybe it is better To have loved and lost ... |

It hurts so much to have lost my wings i miss them more each day i miss the places they took me . . . . . . Security Happiness Grace Freedom . . .
She says I shouldn't cry that i'm crazy "You never had wings" and she sneers behind my back But she's wrong the skin remembers the sensation of wind the muscles remember the joyous, painful work the bones remember the feather-like stops the soul remembers the boundless horizon
i can still hear them rustle and occasionally feel them still there over my shoulders phantom-like
I am a soldier without his legs. |

| Dreams
Last night I held you tasted your skin breathed your hair touched your lips But tonight you've gone where I cannot follow I can only dream and remember the sound of your words the grace of your legs the warmth of your touch the salt of your tears I knew you so well you only told me your name and you gave me a gift of dreams and memories when you left I can still see you dance still hear you cry still smell your skin still taste your lips still feel your hair And I saw you tonight dancing on stage, surrounded my light accepting their applause And I remember that night when I first saw you dance and held you in my arms like I now hold you in my dreams |

| Lifetime
Sliding along the children fall witness to the cause
Innocence and faith and tales laughter courses through it all tears and blood and secrets told to priests behind the wall who recite responses through slumber's snores
Crashing down in madness' fall landslide of unbelief
Seraphim circle rings of fairy dust and confetti trampled underfoot while you wait ready to catch my breath
Standing under the leaves of fall sadness stings my face
Watching demons of love line up in trains to go walking over broken glass to reach cause I can't say no when you look like this
Caught up in the angels' fall guilty of the truth
Carving curses in my skin with a shard of broken love curling smoke-black words of broken promises above stretched skin and shattered bone |

Hiding behind a razor-wire veil weighed down by dreams and fantasies
reaching out to seize the thorns of your love your gift

| Broken Wings
I wake up everyday to see the bars of my prison Lingering memories of freedoms of which I now have none Flying high though the jet streams Now only exists in my dreams Oh, I long for the day of which I can be free To think, to act, to read, to walk alone, to see All the wonders of the world with my eyes Before the last ember of my life dies Yet they subdue me moment by moment Only one thing has helped me through this torment My wings, my beautiful feathers, my escape from this cell For this I rejoice, it is not as eternal as hell Yet today is different, for the bars surrounding me are finally gone I see now my chance, my journey beginning, a new dawn I spread my wings, ready to fly off into the day My joy is spreading, my step is gay A mighty leap I then take Only to crash down again, was this all fake? My wings! My beautiful feathers, have been clipped, my wings! Then a most horrible voice sings Free at last, free at last? Like a damned as you can ever esacpe your past As you are now you will be forever Cage is gone, but your wings are clipped, will you ever find joy? Never! They have finally put out my flame My joy deserted, my life controlled, for now I exist only to serve them, I am tame |

| Sheaves of Soul
I pour my soul on paper, I keep it secret to all I know, show it to those unknown, for my soul is what I have made of it, and what the world has shaped it so.
Whenever I put my soul on paper, my other side shows, for he is the one whom I have given birth to, the world is his father, I'm his mother, now he is a bastard, for naught the world cares.
For when I pour my soul on paper, my true side shows, for my soul is not my own, castigated for what he is, he contemplates patricide, for his purpose is null, his soul void, the vacuum that nature abhors, and of no pain can fill.
To keep my soul on paper, to keep it tear-stained, I have shown no restraint, my heart is heavy, my heart is a wound, for my heart accepts all, for its key was stolen, long ago.
My soul on paper, my other side laughs, he holds the key to my heart, locked inside his, for it's cold can not be broken, it's iron hide impregnable, it's callousness of no bounds, it mocks my life, seeks to make it his own, he has no opposition, for I am broken.
Paper that holds my soul, gently burning in the breeze, tear stains knowing at last release, for my will is broken, my soul is gone, my heart is open, my mind knows no bound, he laughs at my face, scorn on his lips, knowing my strength is gone, for he is I, and I him, intertwined now, he seeks only pleasure, has no restraints, his cruelty unchained, his lies believed, his mockery of my life destroying us both, sending us to suffering, and I cry, tears of blood falling down my cheeks, for he has hurt not me, for I no longer care for my body, but the others of whom I have cared for, the ones whom I loved, the ones of whom I see believing the lies he, no I say, the ones whom I hate, the ones who see me through eyes I have made for them, the ones of whom I can no longer trust, no longer feel for, no longer am I, I.
Paper full of soul, one leaf left to hold, for it is what has kept me going for this long, I gave my friends, my family, my enemies the sword they need, to end this life of lies, yet they have never struck at me, only tried to understand, what could have ever happened, to the one they viewed as me, I fear for what may pass, not of me but those I care, which encompasses the world, I have no restraints, my future, full of taint, my soul is yet my own, my spirit sapped, my body is not mine, only a vessel of pain and suffering, both of receiving and to give, I fear to ever hold a person, for the pain I can wrought, I fear to ever be close, for the suffering I can make them behold, I have sealed myself as I could, to hold him back for a while, my love is gone, only hate remains, and my time on hand is short.
This is the last sheet of my soul, placed here where it may never be burned.
One last stanza in my heart, one last light in the dark, one last beacon to behold, till the day I'm safely home. |

| Who Will?
Who will give them voice? When America, that day, clutched her heart When she cried long into the night When she rent her clothes and bemoaned the loss of her children
Who will give them words? Where she cried and would not be consoled Where her other children rose up and spoke Where they were not white nor black, nor Christian or Muslim, nor Democrat or Republican
Who will give them stories? What rose and lent America their strength that day What saw the tragedy and stood, tears raining down their cheeks What worked to find their family, fellow Americans
Who will give them songs? How they came together, helping each other through this terrible day How they searched for brother, sister, mother, father, uncle, aunt, friend, fiance, themselves How despite being thrown to the floor, they rose and stood ever greater
Who will give them life? Why must the lost be forgotten and not spoken of no longer? Why is their tale residing in a forgotten-less pit? Why must they remain in our hearts when they are still alive in our minds?
Who will give them a final chance? Who dares to remember them? Who knows their life? their song? their story? their words? their voice? Who amongst us would be so brave, as brave as they were that day?
I will give them one more chance I will grant them life Through my song Though my story Through my words Through my voice
Dedicated to the brother, sister, mother, father, uncle, aunt, friend, fiance, and to the me I lost that day |

| Ten Feet Under
The first time under the city is always fun. Also scary. Oh so fun.
Barely standing three feet tall, entering that dark cave. First time underground, still a babe.
Strange smell, of decay and growth, never before smelled it. Go under those triple bars, wait for mommy.
Go down more stairs; see the hobo sleeping on the chairs. Waft of hobo and French fries pervades my nose. “Stay close to me,” my mommy says.
Looking around the station, see the grime of the city, its dirt and trash, a sight still amazing to behold.
So much trash, the rats scurrying around have 5-star hotels to live in. I see one running into its suite, a Macdonald’s bag. They lounge around the trash, playing with the soda cans.
I go to the yellow strip on the side of the ground. I lean over the edge of the platform and look at the rails. “Don’t stand near the edge,” my mommy nearly shouts. I back off, feeling the strange bumps on the floor again.
Suddenly, a guttural roar is heard, a steel beast comes out! I will always remember to stay away from the edge! It stops and opens its many mouths.
“Let’s go,” my mommy tells me. I step inside one of its mouths. It feels like standing in the belly of a great beast. “Stand clear of the closing doors,” someone says out loud.
Could have been God, because I didn’t see anyone speak. We went to I don’t know where, since that was unimportant. We were on the subway. We could go anywhere. |

"Sonnet"
Dragged down and pushed away I signed out and left today Over and done with life and pain Never again to dance in the rain of the city's towers and spires bright where we often spent our together nights Headin out to the forest's gloom sleepin and dreamin beneath the moon
Gotta say it was true you see I gave her all I had of me But she wanted more than I could give But without her I cannot live |

| and now for the lyrics...
"Dark Prophet's Wisdom"
Me, you can't blame just a pawn in His game Or if free will is true then the choice is up to you.
The end is coming near the final signs, growing clear, He calls for my rebirth and an to your Earth.
You're weeping on your own while cries around you drone: No Heaven! No reward! No Earth! No Lord!
In the temple, all alone the truth is in the stone faint words on broken shards. Our future isn't hard to see No you, just me!

"Here Comes the Rain"
Left town today on a plane so fast runnin away from the pain in my past I gotta go, I gotta roam Nowhere to be, I got no home
Loved her too much, but she told me today "Can't face that fear, Can't risk that pain" She broke my heart, I ran away can't stop that pain, so I'm runnin today
Saw her today, walkin thru town I'm livin on instinct, I can't come down I'll always love her, now and always But you can't love a girl who is always afraid
Now I'm an old man, traveled so far I've seen the future, I've touched the stars I've rambled over all of the world Never could find that one special girl Life full of love, Life full of rage Rambling spirit no one could tame Just me and god and the open road nowhere to go, I've got no home

| TOO LATE
So many people these days have no imagination Everybody’s used to being told just what to do It seems that TV has become the global occupation Millions sit and waste their lives in pursuit of nothing new And Mr Spokesman says, it’s worth you staying there He’s just an alibi, but no-one seems to care
The time has come to change the world, but everyone’s asleep Although they claim they’re wide awake Now it’s time to speak your mind, but you’re always in retreat And soon you’ll be too late Oh soon you’ll be too late
So many bright ideas are crushed on the way to liberation The System always has a way to keep you in your place, in your place Don’t seem there’s anyone to stand against this tide of desolation When the ones you want to fight are the ones you’ll never face God is gone, so we’ll pray to Gold instead Hear us this day as we demand our daily bread
The time has come to change the world, but everyone’s asleep Although they claim they’re wide awake Now’s the time to stand your ground, but you’re always in retreat And soon you’ll be too late Too soon you’ll be too late

| A love song.
FILL MY HEART
I’ll carve you a song from the air with my words I’ll weave you a tune like you’ve never heard And if you ask me to teach you happiness you know I will I’ll write you a fire you can see from afar I’ll bring you a wish on a shooting star And I’ll sing you to sleep when the night is still
You know you can always find me here You know I will always love you dear You know I’ve been searching for you from the start I’ll show you the sunshine after the rain And if you’re ever lost again You can always return and fill my heart
I’ll give you my soul if you love me too I’ll be there with you whatever you go through And I’ll take you to Eden wherever it is found And so take my hand and we’ll fly away Away from the misery and the pain Away from the sorrow and the shame all around
I’ll fill you a bowl from the brightest stream I’ll try to help you fulfil your dreams And my arms will be there to catch you should you fall I’ll teach you to ride a kite And I’ll give you the golden light And I will fly to you if you call
You know you can always find me here You know I will always love you dear You know I’ve been searching for you from the start I’ll show you the sunshine after the rain And if you’re ever lost again You can always return and fill my heart Fill my heart

| "Here comes the rain" was actually recorded by a friend and I back in the 90s. But we didn't put it on an album.
A song that did make it onto an album (and even had a video made*) was "Ladykiller." I didn't write all of it; it was a collaborative effort.
*Note that said video was done in art school and not available for public purview. Similarly, said album had a very very small print run and likely only a handful still exist.
"Ladykiller"
Well, they call me ladykiller cause my dates are all dead Yeah my favorite kinda girl is the one with no head I really dig the chicks, I mean it literally cause the girls with rigor mortis really get to me
Oh, I'm a mental case, a real open basket and I love any girl who sleeps in a casket give me a girl with moldy green hair i'm a necrophiliac, i need-a psychiatric care
last night I spent with suzy, vintage 1942 well, she really turns me on cause her skin is dark blue she was missing one leg and her chest was rotted thru but what really got to me was that her teeth were gone too
Oh, I'm a mental case, a real open basket and I love any girl who sleeps in a casket give me a girl with moldy green hair i'm a necrophiliac, i need-a psychiatric care
Well my favorite skin flick is the Living Dead how I love to watch it with a corpse in my bed my friends say I'm crazy say its scruples I lack but I'm proud to be a necrophiliac
well, I'm a mental case, a real open basket and I love any girl who sleeps in a casket give me a girl with moldy green hair i'm a necrophiliac, i need-a psychiatric care necrophiliac, i need-a psychiatric care |

| Last one for now. Something truly depressing. No, it's not based on my life experience.
NO TEARS
He left wondering, wondering what went wrong And she left thinking she’s right all along Another time, another place, they might have seen it through Another life, it’s such a waste
He said, I’m sinking, sinking out of sight And she said, I’m leaving, can’t stand another night She packed her bags, wrote him a note and walked out the door She wouldn’t help keep him afloat
He took his razor, watched his life flow away And she said I’m sorry, but someone had to pay There’s no remorse, there is no shame, there were no tears And now the cold earth knows his name(Track 5, Shorts - Planet Bob) _________________

| bunch of poetry
"if love is blind"
I can smell your hair blanketing my face, taste the bitterness of your perfume, hear you move, feel you. I remember your face. Remember? Its all I see, all I can see. No others exist. You light up a room, and I watch, I stare at the sun, I stare at you, and I am blind.
"Betrayals"
As I lay at the bottom of the well of night my memory begins to return in shards and slivers. Tattered shreds of broken loyalties reflect in my eyes like splinters under fingers bringing pain.
"The Love-Atheist"
It's odd to imagine that you don't believe in the best part of my life.
Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant or else one of us is wrong (not me. please).
Perhaps I could show you how because I don't know how you could show me not to.
"Running"
I see you running along at heartbreak speed Running from the pain Running from the past Running back to me you can't get away you can't hide forever but you can stay with me til your sleepless nights are over
I see you running away at heartbreak speed Looking for a lover Looking for an answer Looking to be free you're only scared of your own heart you're only hiding it from me
"Wishing"
Would that I could woo you would that I could love
I cannot touch your beauty You will not see my face
When I speak of passion when I speak of faith
I know I'm thinking of you But I don't know my place
Perhaps one day I'll whisper perhaps one day I'll say
You are the soul I dream of You are the dawn that breaks.
“Falling”
Falling Again
Falling for a promise Hidden in your eyes That maybe I only imagined
Don’t catch me
Falling every time You push against me And laugh
Don’t catch me
Falling for the words And laughter all Over again
Don’t catch me
Falling to broken shards Lying in the dark Because you
Don’t catch me
Falling under your spell Whether you want It or not
Don’t catch me
Falling. Don’t catch me Just let me fly
"And then we made love"
Last night, the passion, the love . . . your arms holding me tightly holding me close keeping me safe caressing me loving me
and then we made love
Slowly teasing each other loving each other the world could have stopped time could have ended
and still, we made love
You lay above me your hair cascading down a veil our bodies meet we are one
and we made love
I could never express not in any words my love for you I try I really really love you
so then, we made love. |

| "Wrap me in silent night"
wrap me in silent night shrouded in cold darkness that i may find solace the light at my tunnel's end
bury me under a sparkling blanket of moon and stars through the leaves that i may find that sole ease promised at the end
cover my eyes with shadows the tears will be the stars that i may be a soul at ease and rest without my friends
"Angels"
Somewhere lost along the way Can't find the meaning for my days Been lookin for a reason a reason to survive But nobody believes in angels anymore
Broken hearts and promises Shed as she sends her kisses Words, thoughts, desires shared between the pages But nobody believes in angels anymore
No they don't believe in me But I'd never let her down (an') They don't care 'bout me As I drive the nails down And they won't miss a thing 'bout me After the coffin enters the ground
Somewhere found a friend Right near the very end But now I'm already fallen and now I'm climbin' again But nobody believes in angels anymore
"Butterflies"
delicate . . . but nevertheless ripping open the cocoon of your dress to reveal your beautiful butterfly breasts
beating you down like the first frigid winter winds cutting, tearing, consuming
captivated by your colors and stuck in place by your glance pinned helplessly beneath you exposed on display
throwing myself into your storm of passion needing, offering, sacrificing
"After Reading Brautigan at 4 am"
Society wants me to have a name so I do but I would rather have a name like a lover's touch
I really want a lover, again, for good this time and I wish it could be the girl who I once touched
That would be watermelon sugar to me |
